Uninsured motorist property damage

Auto insurance is purchased in order to protect the property in event of accident. All the states want that motorist have some form of insurance coverage in the event they are liable for an accident.

Many a times you can meet with an accident. Because of the accident you can suffer from major property and bodily damage. You may also be stuck by a person who does not have any car insurance policy coverage. In such an event uninsured motorist insurance can cover the expenses that have occurred as a result of accident. Though this kind of insurance is not required it is advisable to have extra protection. Hence first speak to your insurance agent about this type of insurance coverage.

If the other person with whom you have met with an accident does not have the coverage then this insurance coverage will help you pay the damages. Such type of insurance is mostly carried by those persons who do not have collision coverage. It also covers the damages caused by hit and run drivers. If the driver with whom you have met with an accident is at fault has coverage but is only a state legal coverage then your insurance coverage will pay the limit of your policy after subtracting the amount that is paid by the other driver. Passengers of your vehicle are also covered under your uninsured motorist coverage and may receive medical treatments for their injuries under this coverage.

There are two types of uninsured motorist protection available for property and bodily protection. Property damage protection pays for the damage caused to your vehicle. It also assists the repairs of your vehicle caused by the accident by an uninsured motorist. Bodily injury protection helps for any medical expenses that occur as a result of bodily injury from the accident. It also provides the lost wages caused as a result of missing the work because of injuries.

Many people have misunderstanding that the uninsured motorist insurance is included in their insurance. But it is not so, it is an optional policy which you need to request to add to your policy. It is not compulsory hence you yourself have to ask for the information to add it to your policy. If you meet with an accident never try to solve the situation on your own. Always contact the insurance company and provide all the information about the accident because in case of not doing so can lead you the denial of your claim.
