The purchase of an automobile is the huge investment that is made by a person. In order to protect this investment it is necessary that you have some kind of insurance so that you can get compensation of the damages that are done to your vehicle. It is legally necessary to have minimum auto insurance but full auto coverage provides you with many benefits which help you protect your automobile.
The full auto coverage consists of various components such as liability insurance which is the insurance that covers the damage done to the person or property if the policyholder is at fault. It is the minimum policy which every vehicle holder is required to possess. Liability insurance has three numbers put in terms as 50/100/25 which refer to how many thousands of dollars are covered by liability insurance: personal injury/property damage/medical bills, respectively. If a policyholder is deemed at fault by the police in an accident, the person whose property is damaged is eligible for $50,000 for personal injury, up to $100,000 for repair or replacement of property and up to $25,000 for medical bills. There is nothing included in the liability policy to protect the interest of the policyholder who is at fault.
The other part of full auto coverage is the collision coverage which includes the damage done to the car while it is moving and strikes anything. But this applies only when you have paid the deductibles. It also includes the damage done to your vehicle by the fault of someone who does not have the insurance. The other part is comprehensive coverage which includes the damage done to the vehicle because of natural calamities. It also provides protection against theft and vandalization. It is not compulsory to have comprehensive coverage.
Then here is uninsured driver insurance. It covers the policyholder if not at fault in an accident with a person who has no insurance. Instead of having to pay the deductible on the car, the uninsured motorist insurance pays the deductible. It provides protection if medical bills or other expenses are incurred because of the accident. But this insurance is effective only if the accident was not because of policyholders fault and other driver has no insurance at all.
Then there is underinsured driver insurance which is similar to uninsured driver insurance. This insurance covers the difference if other driver’s insurance is not adequate to compensate the damage of the policy holder. Some states provide drivers the permission to have some amount in the account held by the state in lieu of the insurance policy. The regulations vary from state to state but the driver of one state with the insurance is not barred to enter other state. If the amount in the special account is inadequate to cover the damage to person and property then it is covered by the underinsured policy. But the policy holder should not be at fault of the accident.
The applications of these policies, as well as their limits, deductibles and premiums vary from company to company. The policyholder has full freedom in choosing to combine two or more of these policies under its definition of "full coverage insurance”.
